Recently, the Eagle-Garden City Rotary Club was honored to present a Greater Boise Rotary Foundation grant for $2,050 to Nations United Soccer. This nonprofit's mission is to help refugee and immigrant children and teens overcome adversity through soccer. The grant will go toward funding bus transportation for these children and teens, offsetting the estimated cost of $4,600 for 60 riders. 
Nations United started in 2016 as a co-ed soccer team for refugee and immigrant students attending schools in the Boise School District. Today, the program provides underserved youth with the opportunity to not only play soccer, but also to develop a growth mindset and engage in their community. Funds come solely from grants and donations, and transportation is a large part of the organization's budget. Without the bus and dedicated drivers, many of the students would be unable to participate. The bus picks players up and delivers them to practice or games in a rotating cycle, taking players home again after their activities are done. Our club is one of eight Ada County clubs that make up the Greater Boise Rotary Foundation, which was created in 1984 and now manages a nearly million-dollar fund. The GBRF awards grants in two cycles each year, one for large grants of around $25,000 and another for smaller grants between $500 and $2,500. Since 2010, the GBRF has funded over $541,000 in grants directly to Ada County nonprofits.
Since July 2020, our club members have donated nearly $3,500 to the Greater Boise Rotary Foundation. We're very proud of the benefits our contributions bring to worthy causes in Ada County.
